Hezbollah More Alive than Ever: Iran Parliament Speaker
THERAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf dismissed claims that Lebanon’s Hezbollah has been weakened, saying the resistance movement is more alive than ever.
Speaking at the internet program “Majaray-e Jang” (The Story of War), Qalibaf said despite recent setbacks for Hezbollah, including the martyrdom of its former secretary general Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, the Islamic resistance movement is “more alive and coherent than ever.
He also questioned why the United States would be so concerned with disarming Hezbollah if the movement had truly been defeated.
Qalibaf also referred to the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas’ Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7, 2023, as a legitimate resistance operation, stating that from a strategic standpoint, there was no mistake in it.
While reaffirming Iran’s support for regional resistance movement, he noted that the decision to implement the operation was taken solely by Hamas without prior knowledge from Iran or Hezbollah.
“This decision was completely made by Hamas, and the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hezbollah of Lebanon were not aware of the operational details,” Qalibaf said, adding that this position had also been stated by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Hezbollah’s late leader, Nasrallah.
Qalibaf outlined Iran’s role as one of support rather than direct command. “We do not interfere in the decision-making of Hezbollah and Hamas. They make their own decisions based on their political and operational circumstances, but we support their decisions in line with the defense of their land and Islamic ideals,” he explained. This support, he argued, is a means of defending Iran’s own national security and interests.
The parliament speaker also cited the operation’s success as evidence that Israel’s claims of total informational dominance are false.
Qalibaf further described the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation as a strategic necessity, arguing that before judging it, one must consider the context of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.
“In the strategy of October 7 (operation), there was no mistake. The legitimacy and righteousness of the resistance always remain in place,” he stated.
