Israeli Strikes on Jabalia Refugee Camp Claim Several Lives, Including Civil Defense Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza killed several people on Sunday, including a high-ranking civil defense official, as Israeli forces continued heavy bombardment across the besieged strip, leaving dozens dead in the past 24 hours.
An Israeli airstrike targeted the Morsi family home in the Jabalia camp early Sunday morning. Gaza’s civil defense announced that Mohammad Abdelhay Morsi, its deputy director for north Gaza, was killed along with three of his family members.
Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal confirmed, “the martyrdom of Mohammad Abdelhay Morsi, the deputy director of civil defense in northern Gaza, who was killed in an Israeli strike targeting his family's home early this morning in the Al-Alami area of Jabalia.”
Bassal added that Morsi’s death raised the number of civil defense workers killed to 83, with hundreds more wounded.
Earlier, Israeli forces targeted two schools in northern Gaza, one in Jabalia and another near Gaza City. The strike on Halima al-Saadiya school occurred around midnight on Saturday.
“The two missiles targeted a tent, not even a concrete building or a tunnel. We all panicked. Among the dead was a woman who was preparing milk for her child,” a displaced Gazan told Al Jazeera.
At least four Palestinians, including a child, were killed in a separate strike on the Amr ibn al-Aas school on 7 September.
Al Jazeera reported that at least 31 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza over the past 24 hours.
On 5 September, Gaza’s Government Media Office released data revealing that nearly 70% of those killed by Israeli forces in Gaza have been women and children.
The media office also reported that the Israeli army has committed 3,556 massacres against Palestinians since the war began, with nearly 1,000 medical and civil defense workers killed.
Additionally, seven mass graves have been discovered inside hospitals in the Gaza Strip. Over 170 displacement shelters, 200 government buildings, and 123 schools and universities have been bombed or destroyed.
