Moroccans Protest Israeli Delegation at Peace Forum As Gaza Assault Intensifies
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands of Moroccans staged protests against the presence of Israeli representatives at a women’s peace forum in Subra, while mass rallies across Morocco and Mauritania condemned Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Demonstrators in Morocco denounced the participation of Israeli regime’s delegates at the “World Women’s Forum for Peace” held in Subra, a city in western Morocco.
The protests were organized by the Al-Zahraa Association, an alliance of women’s NGOs, with participants holding placards rejecting normalization with Israel and voicing support for Palestinian resistance.
Chants included “Long live Palestinian resistance” and “No to normalization with Tel Aviv.”
Political and civil groups, including the women’s branch of the Justice and Development Party, the Al-Zahraa Association, the Justice and Charity Movement, and Morocco for Support and Defense, boycotted the forum in protest.
The rallies also highlighted continued opposition to Morocco’s 2020 normalization deal with Israel, brokered by the United States, which has faced widespread rejection from Moroccan citizens and political parties.
According to Anadolu, anti-Israel protests took place across 56 Moroccan cities under the banner “Abandoned Gaza, Desecrated Al-Aqsa — Is There Anyone to Help?”
Participants condemned what they described as forced displacement of Gaza residents and Israel’s policy of starvation against civilians, urging Arab states to stand with Palestine.
In Mauritania, citizens rallied in the capital Nouakchott after Friday prayers, condemning international silence over what they called genocide in Gaza.
Protesters shouted slogans such as “Glory to resilient Gaza,” “Starving Gaza is a war crime,” and “Stop the genocide.”
They condemned Washington for complicity in Israeli actions and demanded the expulsion of the US ambassador from Mauritania.
The protests come as Israel’s bombardment of Gaza entered its 715th day, with residents reporting relentless strikes on civilian neighborhoods, schools, and shelters.
Local media circulated images of children killed in a strike on Al-Mu’tasim school, which had been housing displaced families near Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza City.
Health authorities in Gaza say more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed and 166,000 wounded since the start of the offensive, the majority women, children, and the elderly.
Israeli shelling and air raids continued overnight, with large parts of Gaza City engulfed in flames and communications cut for a third consecutive day.
Displaced families reported no safe areas left, as bombardments targeted Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah, Al-Bureij camp, and other locations.
Residents described Gaza as being on the brink of famine, with widespread shortages of food and medicine under blockade.
Entire neighborhoods lie in ruins, and tens of thousands of Palestinians have been forced to abandon their homes under fire.
