Iran’s President to Attend UNGA in New York
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to New York in the coming days to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and deliver a speech before world leaders, his political adviser Mahdi Sanaei said.
In a post on X on Sunday, Sanaei announced that the president will depart Tehran for New York on Tuesday, September 23, after taking part in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony marking the start of the new school year in Iran.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday morning local time (Wednesday evening Tehran time), the adviser added.
According to Sanaei, the president will also hold bilateral consultations with the heads of various states as well as with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and attend meetings with think tanks, selected forums, and Iranian expatriates residing in the United States.
The 80th ordinary session of the UNGA opened on September 9. The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, September 23.
The theme of this year’s session is "Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights".
