Coronavirus Cases in Iran Nearing 150,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people who have contracted the coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 150,000, the Health Ministry spokesperson announced, noting that nearly 117,000 positive cases have recovered from the viral disease.
In comments at a daily press conference on Saturday, Kianoosh Jahanpoor said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has risen to 148,950 after the detection of 2,282 new cases since Friday noon.
He said 116,827 coronavirus patients have recovered from the disease so far and have been discharged from the hospital.
According to Jahanpoor, the coronavirus death toll in Iran has risen to 7,734 after 57 patients lost their lives during the past 24 hours.
Among the coronavirus patients undergoing treatment in the hospital at present, 2,533 have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, he said.
The spokesperson also noted that 916,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
He warned that the outbreak situation in the southwestern province of Khuzestan is still critical.
More than 6 million people have been infected with COVID-19 globally, and the death toll has exceeded 367,000.
