Palestinian Resistance Fighters Strike Israeli Forces in Rafah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A coordinated operation by Palestinian resistance groups in southern Gaza pushed Israeli occupation forces to the brink of capture, in what Tel Aviv has described as a “serious security incident.”
According to Israeli media, fighters emerged from a tunnel near a military site north of Rafah and launched a surprise assault with anti-tank rockets and automatic weapons, targeting the occupying soldiers. Reports said between 14 and 20 resistance fighters took part in the attack.
Hebrew-language outlets acknowledged that the operation was highly organized and aimed at storming the base and capturing Israeli troops. The Israeli military radio reported that resistance fighters clashed with the soldiers at close range after reaching the entrance of the position. The confrontation lasted about 30 minutes, with fighters deploying heavy fire, machine guns, and RPGs.
Israel admitted that helicopters and tanks were deployed to the area, and surrounding neighborhoods came under intense bombardment. Local settler-linked outlets reported that military helicopters landed in Rafah to evacuate casualties, contradicting official Israeli claims that only a few soldiers were injured.
Israeli Channel 12’s correspondent said resistance fighters entered the outpost carrying large quantities of weapons and explosives, a sign that their goal was to seize soldiers as captives.
Despite Tel Aviv’s attempts to downplay the blow, Israeli commentators themselves recognized it as one of the most serious organized resistance operations in recent months.
The attack came in response to nearly two years of Israeli genocidal war against people of Gaza, where at least 62,064 people killed and 156,573 wounded, while hundreds more were starved to death and at least 14,947 people injured at US-backed aid distribution sites.
