Iranians Commemorate Tasou'a, Honoring Imam Hussein's Martyred Brother Abbas
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranians from different walks of life gathered in mosques, Husseiniyahs, and makeshift mourning tents across the country on Monday to commemorate Tasou'a, lamenting Abbas ibn Ali's (AS) martyrdom in a solemn display of national mourning.
Clad in mourning attire, they mourned the martyrdom of Hazrat Abbas (AS), renowned as the most loyal brother in history, his legacy symbolizing loyalty, love, gratitude, compassion, and bravery.
The mention of Abbas evokes a sea of emotions, stirring hearts and overwhelming eyes with tears. Wherever his name is spoken, it becomes a sea, waves crashing from all directions, squeezing hearts and stirring souls. Abbas is familiar to all who seek freedom, shelter, and brotherhood, transcending ethnicities, religions, and nations. His admirers include Shia, Sunni, and Armenian communities, erecting mourning tents and reciting countless vows of allegiance.
The elegies for Abbas ibn Ali (AS) are among the most poignant, each drop of mournful verse falling like tears on the desert of Karbala. Overflowing with sorrow, yearning, and regret, these elegies have transformed Iran into a landscape of remembrance for Abbas ibn Ali (AS).
In Mashhad, the atmosphere at the sacred shrine of Imam Reza (AS) has turned somber since the beginning of Muharram (July 7), hosting lamentation ceremonies with heartfelt sadness. Devotees, including mourners and pilgrims, gathered around mourning rituals and elegies within the precincts of the holy shrine, paying respects to the masterful server of Karbala.
In Qom, solemn processions and lamentations intensified towards Hazrat Masoumeh's shrine. Ilam prepared hospitably for Arbaeen visitors, adorned in mourning banners. Zanjan honored Abbas ibn Ali (AS) fervently at Hussainiyahs, resonating with lamentations and chants of devotion. Today, Zanjan echoes with mournful tributes to Abbas, reaffirming allegiance across the city.
Tasou'a and Ashoura stand as the poignant apex of Muharram's commemoration, solemnly marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) during the Battle of Karbala in 680 A.D.
