COVID Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 136,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has surpassed 136,000, the Health Ministry said.
Figures released by the ministry on Friday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 214 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 136,166.
According to the statistics, 11,972 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 1,940 of them hospitalized.
More than 6.6 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 7,023,900 who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.
Some 4,190 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.
The ministry also said that over 62.67 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 55.32 million have received the second dosage, and more than 22.83 million have gotten the booster shots.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 432 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.95 million.
