COVID Death Toll in Iran Soars Past 100,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran has exceeded 100,000, with over 560 more Iranians succumbing to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

Over the last 24 hours, 31,226 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 4,603 of them hospitalized, the Ministry said on Thursday.

It put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 100,255, saying the disease has taken the lives of 564 patients over the past 24 hours.

More than 3.84 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 4,587,000 ones who have contracted the disease, the Ministry added.

Some 7,538 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The Ministry also said that more than 16.25 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 5.23 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 210 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.4 million.
