New COVID Cases, Hospital Admissions in Iran Decline Slightly

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of new cases tested positive for the coronavirus and those admitted to the hospital in Iran dropped on Wednesday as the vaccination program is gathering pace.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Wednesday, Health Ministry’s Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said 349 coronavirus cases have died across the country over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from COVID-19 to 73,568.

The spokeswoman also noted that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,591,600 after the detection of 15,872 new cases since yesterday.

More than 2,039,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,499 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 16.51 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 1,115,700 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 155 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.24 million.
