New COVID Cases in Iran over 20,000, Daily Deaths Close to 200
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus reached 193 on Wednesday and the new cases detected over the past 24 hours exceeded 20,000 as all of the provincial capitals have been categorized as ‘red zones’.
Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Wednesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 1,984,300 after the detection of 20,954 new cases since yesterday.
Sima Sadat Lari said the pandemic has claimed 193 lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 63,699.
More than 1,675,800 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she added.
Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,177 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.
The spokeswoman also noted that more than 13.33 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 133 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.88 million.
