COVID-19 Deaths in Iran Surpass 53,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran has exceeded 53,000, the Health Ministry said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Thursday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 212 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 53,095.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 1,138,530 after the detection of 7,453 new cases since yesterday, she added.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,147 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 856,513 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,645 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 6,896,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 74.6 million and the death toll has surpassed 1,650,000.
