Iranian Expats in US Going to Polls to Pick Next President (+Photos)
WASHINGTON, DC (Tasnim) – Iranian expatriates in the US are going to the polls to vote in the country’s 12th presidential election.
According to Tasnim dispatches, over 50 polling stations have been set up by the Iranian Interests Section in the United States in various cities and states for the nationals to elect their next president.
They include Arizona, Phoenix, Oklahoma, Portland, Ohio, Columbus, Illinois, Chicago, Pennsylvania, Texas, Dallas, Houston, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Washington, Seattle, and Virginia.
In addition, a polling station has been set up in the US city of Buffalo, which borders Canada, to allow Iranian nationals in the North American country to vote.
On May 10, the Canadian government denied a request by Tehran to set up polling stations in the North American country, saying that the Islamic Republic did not have a diplomatic presence in Canada.
Iran’s Interior Ministry has set up 304 polling stations in 104 foreign countries to allow Iranian nationals abroad to cast their ballots in the presidential election.
There are four candidates seeking presidency in the polls, namely incumbent President Hassan Rouhani, Ebrahim Raisi, Mostafa Hashemitaba, and Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim.
A run-off would be held a week later if none of the candidates wins a majority, which is at least 50 percent plus one vote.
