Azeri FM Hails Iran’s Stance on Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict as ‘Excellent’
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov praised ‘the fair stance’ adopted by Iran over a recent conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh separatist region.
Speaking at a meeting with Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi in Baku, the Azeri top diplomat praised Tehran’s efforts to resolve disputes between Baku and Yerevan.
He said Azerbaijan regards Iran’s stance on the disputes over the Nagorno-Karabakh region as “fair” and “excellent”.
Violence in Azerbaijan’s breakaway region escalated early this month. Baku and Yerevan have accused each other of provoking hostilities. A ceasefire was achieved on April 5, following days of clashes that led to numerous casualties on both sides.
Nagorno-Karabakh has been under the control of Armenian military and separatists since a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan ended in 1994. Years of negotiations have brought little progress in resolving the dispute.
Elsewhere in the meeting between Mammadyarov and Vaezi, the two sides exchanged views on other issues, including ways to boost bilateral relations between Iran and Azerbaijan in diverse areas like economy, tourism and information technology.
