Iran FM, UN Chief Discuss Nuclear Issue, Regional Developments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed Iran’s nuclear issue and regional developments.

During a phone conversation on late Thursday, Guterres welcomed the recent understanding on cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He expressed the UN’s support for continued dialogue and the diplomatic process concerning Iran’s nuclear file.

Araqchi underlined Iran’s determination to safeguard the rights and interests of the Iranian nation under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

He stressed the need for the United Nations and all countries to take a clear and firm stance against unlawful attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.

He criticized the approach of the three European countries for ignoring US and Israeli military aggression while threatening to revive annulled Security Council resolutions.

He said such a course of action was irresponsible, unjustified, and would only complicate the issue further.

The Iranian foreign minister highlighted Tehran’s constructive engagement with the IAEA to reach an understanding on implementing its safeguards commitments amid new circumstances created by recent attacks on nuclear facilities.

He emphasized the importance of European parties and Security Council members recognizing the value and significance of this development.

Araqchi also called Israel’s criminal actions in occupied Palestine an act of genocide and described the regime’s aggression as the most pressing issue facing the world today.

He condemned Israel’s recent terrorist attack against Qatar and urged the international community, the United Nations, and the Secretary-General personally to act on their shared responsibility to stop the genocide and curb Israel’s expansionism and aggression.
