President Rouhani Leaves Tehran for Indonesia
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday departed for the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, to take part in an event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.
Rouhani is making the visit at the official invitation of his Indonesian counterpart.
The Iranian president is attending Asian–African Conference as the head of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and will address its first general session.
He plans to hold separate meetings with leaders of a number of participating states as well as a number of scholars, Islamic thinkers, and university professors in Indonesia.
Also in his visit, Rouhani will meet Indonesian entrepreneurs and businessmen, and will also take part in a meeting to discuss regional issues with member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Indonesian foreign ministry has announced that 33 heads of state as well as representatives from 77 countries have confirmed their participation at the summit, due to be held from April 22 to April 23, and the commemoration activities, scheduled for April 24.
The first Asian–African Conference, also known as the Bandung Conference, was held in 1955 in Bandung, Indonesia, which brought together leaders and representatives from 29 Asian and African countries to discuss independence, peace and economic prosperity.
The twenty-five countries that participated at the Bandung Conference represented nearly one-quarter of the Earth's land surface and a total population of 1.5 billion people.
