Israeli Regime’s Invasion Deepens As Gaza Death Toll Mounts
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli tanks pushed deeper into Gaza City under the cover of intense airstrikes, leaving dozens of Palestinians dead, according to witnesses and Gaza health authorities.
At least 29 Palestinians were killed since dawn, including 25 in Gaza City alone, medical sources told Al Jazeera. The Gaza Health Ministry later reported that 61 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours, raising the overall death toll since October 2023 to 65,344, with more than 166,000 injured.
Hospitals remain on the brink of collapse under constant shelling. At Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital, Australian anaesthesiologist Dr. Saya Aziz described a skeletal staff working amid daily bombardments. “The (staff) who have turned up are essentially risking their lives to come,” she said. One anaesthetic assistant reportedly walked four hours from southern Gaza to complete a 24-hour shift, despite being injured while digging shelter for his family. “Every soul to them matters,” Aziz noted.
Displaced Palestinians sheltering in schools now face new evacuation orders from the Israeli military. Hundreds were told to abandon one such refuge in Gaza City within hours. “We’ve been living like this for two years,” said Najwa Musabeh, a displaced woman. “We left our belongings behind, even my children. We don’t know where we’re going, but we’re not leaving Gaza. We have nowhere else to go.”
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 23 Palestinians were wounded by Israeli fire while seeking humanitarian aid in the past day. Since May 27, more than 2,500 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 18,500 injured while attempting to secure food and medicine under siege.
The regime’s crimes have drawn mounting international condemnation. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former war minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. At the same time, Israel faces ongoing proceedings at the International Court of Justice over accusations of genocide.
The assaults continue as global support for Palestinian statehood grows, even as civilians in Gaza endure devastation, displacement, and daily massacres at the hands of the Israeli regime.
