Iran Blasts UK Denial of Genocide, Slams Complicity in Israeli Crimes
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman denounced Britain’s rejection of genocide charges against the Israeli regime, calling on London and other backers of Tel Aviv’s atrocities in Gaza to stop their complicity in those atrocities.
Esmaeil Baqaei, writing on X on Thursday, responded to former UK foreign secretary’s September 1 letter to parliament in which David Lammy insisted that the UK had “not concluded” the regime was committing genocide, citing legal definitions that require “specific intent” to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group.
Baqaei countered that the UN Human Rights Council’s Commission of Inquiry had already established that Israeli officials and forces “have had and continue to have” genocidal intent toward Gaza’s two-million-plus population.
He said the commission’s 72-page legal analysis, based on verifiable facts and figures, “leaves no doubt” about the genocidal nature of Israel’s actions.
The spokesman condemned Britain and other Israeli allies for abetting such atrocities, saying, “The genocidal regime's enablers and apologists must shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities and stop active participation and complicity in genocide of Palestinian people.”
Baqaei pointed to repeated Western efforts to shield Israel on the global stage through vetoes, political cover, and attempts to whitewash its crimes, in addition to directly supplying Tel Aviv with weapons, intelligence, and targeting data.
The genocidal war on Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 65,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, while leaving thousands missing under rubble or subjected to forced disappearance.
Israel’s campaign has also devastated nearly all vital infrastructure in the densely-populated besieged enclave and weaponized starvation by imposing a near-total blockade.
