Trump Signals Approval for Israeli Seizure of Gaza As Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Amid growing international condemnation over Israel’s brutal war on Gaza, US President Donald Trump has indicated that Washington will not oppose Tel Aviv’s plans to fully occupy the besieged Palestinian territory.

Trump said on Tuesday he would not interfere if Israel moves to seize full control of Gaza.

When asked about Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported decision to occupy the entirety of the Palestinian enclave, Trump stated his focus was on delivering food to Gaza.

“As far as the rest of it, I really can’t say. That’s going to be pretty much up to Israel,” he told reporters.

The United States, Israel’s chief military sponsor, continues to supply Tel Aviv with billions of dollars in weapons and equipment—support that surged after Israel launched its war on Gaza in October 2023.

Since then, the occupying regime has issued mass evacuation orders, herding Palestinians into overcrowded and shrinking areas, with nearly 86 percent of Gaza transformed into militarized zones.

Plans for a broader ground invasion risk escalating an already catastrophic humanitarian disaster.

The remaining Palestinian population, suffering from relentless Israeli bombings and systematic starvation, faces further danger if Israel proceeds with a total takeover.

There are also concerns for the safety of the Israeli captives held by Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza.

Miroslav Jenca, the United Nations’ top envoy for political affairs, warned Tuesday that any attempt by Israel to fully occupy Gaza would carry “catastrophic consequences.”

“International law is clear in this regard. Gaza is and must remain an integral part of the future Palestinian state,” he told the UN Security Council.

Though Israel removed settlers and troops from Gaza in 2005, legal analysts maintain the enclave has remained under occupation due to Israel’s control over its airspace, borders, and coastal waters.

Since 2023, Israeli far-right politicians have openly called for reoccupying the Strip and rebuilding settlements.

Netanyahu himself has hinted at a plan to forcibly remove all Palestinians from Gaza—a strategy amounting to ethnic cleansing.

Trump supported this notion in February, describing Gaza as a future “riviera of the Middle East,” devoid of its native population.

The latest revelations about Israel’s expansionist goals come as famine spreads across Gaza, prompting global outrage.

Since March, Tel Aviv has blocked nearly all humanitarian aid, leaving only US-backed GHF outposts as a source of limited food access.

Israeli troops have shot hundreds of desperate Palestinians trying to reach these facilities, which lie within Israel’s control lines.

Despite these atrocities, the US continues to back the GHF, ignoring repeated UN appeals to take over aid distribution.

In recent days, Israel has allowed a few truck convoys and air drops, but aid deliveries remain grossly insufficient.

The occupying army has also been accused of attacking Palestinians attempting to access food trucks in northern Gaza.

Trump repeated Tuesday that Washington has provided $60 million in aid to Gaza—$30 million of which went to the GHF.

“As you know, $60m was given by the United States fairly recently to supply food – a lot of food, frankly – for the people of Gaza that are obviously not doing too well with the food,” he said.

“And I know Israel is going to help us with that, in terms of distribution and also money. We also have the Arab states (which) are going to help us with that in terms of the money and possibly distribution.”

Israel’s aggression has left over 61,000 Palestinians dead and Gaza in ruins.

Human rights groups and UN experts have described the campaign as genocide, enabled by unwavering American support.
