3 Clerics Reappointed to Iran’s Constitutional Council

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei extended the tenure of three clerics in the Constitutional Council on Tuesday.

In a decree on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei reappointed Seyed Ahmad Khatami, Alireza Aa’rafi, and Seyed Ahmad Hosseini Khorasani as members of the Constitutional Council.

The current term of the three clerics as member of the council will expire on July 16.

The Constitutional Council is a constitutionally mandated 12-member council in Iran that, among other things, is tasked with ensuring the compatibility of the legislation passed by the parliament with the criteria of Islam and the Constitution.

Six clerical members of the council are directly appointed by the Leader.
