Palestinian Journalist Killed in Israeli Strike on Gaza Hospital
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis killed prominent Palestinian journalist Hassan Al-Aslih, who was undergoing treatment after being wounded in an earlier bombing, raising the number of journalists killed in Gaza to 215 since the war began.
Israeli forces struck Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza early Tuesday, killing Al-Aslih along with several other civilians, according to local media.
Al-Aslih had been seriously injured during an Israeli attack on a tent sheltering displaced persons and journalists in Khan Younis on April 7.
He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital’s burn unit.
Palestinian media and official sources confirmed his death, reporting that the total number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since October 2023 now stands at 215.
In a statement mourning his death, the Palestinian Resistance Committees condemned the strike, calling it “a cowardly and treacherous terrorist crime by the Zionist army.”
“We mourn our great martyr, Hassan Abdul-Fattah Al-Aslih,” the group said.
They added that his killing would remain “a stain on the forehead of the Zionist regime and the international community, which have failed to protect Palestinians.
They called the act a deliberate assassination of a journalist in a medical facility, equating it with ongoing war crimes committed against civilians.
“The murder of Hassan Al-Aslih, a brave journalist who was recovering in a hospital, is part of a broader campaign to silence voices exposing the occupation’s crimes in Gaza,” the statement continued.
The committee said the killing was intended to intimidate reporters and prevent them from documenting the situation on the ground.
They criticized international indifference, pointing to US support for Israel and the silence of global institutions.
“This assassination should awaken dormant consciences and drive effective international action to protect journalists carrying out their humanitarian and media missions,” they added.
They emphasized that such acts would not silence Palestinian journalists or erase the Palestinian narrative.
“Al-Aslih gave his life to transmit the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world,” the statement concluded.
The Gaza Government Media Office also issued a statement mourning Al-Aslih’s death and condemning the targeting of journalists by Israeli forces.
“We strongly denounce the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the occupying army,” the office said.
They urged the international community, the International Federation of Journalists, and media organizations worldwide to hold Israel accountable.
The statement accused Israel, the US, the UK, Germany, and France of complicity in Israeli genocidal acts in Gaza.
It called on global legal bodies to prosecute Israeli officials for repeated violations of international law.
It also demanded immediate global action to stop the killings of journalists and civilians in Gaza.
Al-Aslih was among several journalists injured during the April 7 Israeli bombing of a tent housing displaced civilians and reporters in Khan Younis.
Two journalists were killed in that attack, and at least ten others were wounded.
