COVID Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 131,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has risen to above 131,000, the Health Ministry said.`
Figures released by the ministry on Saturday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 41 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 131,033.
According to the statistics, 1,361 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 243 of them hospitalized.
Nearly 6 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6.16 million who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.
Some 2,909 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.
The ministry also said that over 59.06 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 50.19 million have received the second dosage, and more than 3.56 million have gotten the booster shots.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 274 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.36 million.
