President: Iran on Verge of COVID-19 Containment
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised the tireless efforts of the medical workers after outbreak of the novel coronavirus, saying the country is almost on the verge of containing the epidemic.
Addressing a cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani said Iran has made great progress in the fight against COVID-19 thanks to the efforts the medical society has been making over the past three months.
“During these three months, we have been advancing step by step without a retreat. In general, we’ve made good progress in the face of this dangerous virus and are almost on the verge of containment,” he added.
Elsewhere in the meeting, the president said Iran is going to celebrate the International Quds Day on Friday, stressing that the ultimate victory belongs to Palestinians although they are suffering heavy pressures and the US keeps hatching new plots.
“Quds (Jerusalem) will not be forgotten and will not remain under occupation of tyrants. The Palestinian territory will be liberated and we do not accept such (Israeli) cruelty, tyranny and aggression.”
Rouhani also said that people of Iran will be chanting slogans in support of Palestine during the Friday prayers in the cities categorized as white zones (low risk of coronavirus infection), while people in other cities will mark the Quds day in the virtual space or in other ways possible.
While countrywide demonstrations marking the International Quds Day have been cancelled in Iran due to the coronavirus outbreak, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will deliver a speech on this occasion on May 22.
The International Quds Day is an annual event during which demonstrators express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the Zionist regime of Israel.
