Iran Voices Support for Venezuela against US Threats

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity with Venezuela in the face of mounting US political and military threats.

In a telephone conversation, Araqchi and his Venezuelan counterpart Yvan Gil Pinto discussed bilateral relations as well as the latest developments in the Caribbean region following the recent US moves.

The Venezuelan foreign minister briefed Araqchi on the current situation, pointing to Washington’s unlawful threats against Caracas.

He also expressed gratitude for Iran’s principled stances in defending the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and underscored the importance of respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Gil Pinto stressed that the government and people of Venezuela, with strong determination, will continue to defend their independence, national sovereignty, and the right to self-determination.

He also expressed hope that the BRICS members and other South American countries would adopt a firm stance to condemn Washington’s hostile actions.

Araqchi, for his part, strongly denounced the US’ unilateral and bullying policies against independent nations, stressing that threats to use force against developing countries constitute a blatant violation of the UN Charter and a clear danger to international peace and security.

He further underlined that responsible governments must act in the current critical situation to prevent the spread of lawlessness and insecurity.

Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s solidarity and support for the Venezuelan people in the face of US bullying.

The conversation came against a backdrop of a recent US military escalation. Washington has deployed three destroyers to the waters off Venezuela under the pretext of counter-narcotics operations. This move, which came alongside increased sanctions and an elevated bounty on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, has significantly heightened regional tensions.

Iran and Venezuela, both under heavy US sanctions, have reinforced their alliance through cooperation in energy, trade, and technology. Officials from both nations consistently emphasize their shared commitment to resisting US hegemony and supporting each other’s sovereignty on the international stage.
