Israel Failed in Its War on Iran: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister said the Israeli regime has failed to achieve its objectives in the recent war against Iran, noting that the regime’s acts of aggression and assassination of Iranian commanders provoked strong responses from Tehran.

Saeed Khatibzadeh spoke in an interview with an Iraqi television program about the regional issues and bilateral relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

Regarding the recent regional developments and the Israeli aggression against Iran, he stated that for more than two years, the Zionist regime has violated all international laws and diplomatic norms.

The assassination of Iranian commanders is a crime, he said, noting that the Israeli regime’s method and approach are based on assassination.

Following its aggression against Iran’s sovereignty, Israel received a strong response from Iran, he noted.

Khatibzadeh added that Israel, using its major media lobbies, spreads false narratives and distorts the truth.

He emphasized that the Zionist regime has failed to achieve its objectives in the 12-day war against Iran.

The diplomat stressed that Iran seeks to prevent the region from entering another war, but acknowledged that the possibility of a conflict between Iran and the Zionist regime remains high.

He further stated that the war against Iran has changed the reality on the ground, especially regarding Iran’s nuclear program, and that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was unable to fully protect Iran’s nuclear facilities.

On June 13, the Zionist regime launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran, targeting military, nuclear, and residential areas for 12 consecutive days. The United States later escalated the conflict by striking three of Iran’s nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on June 22.

Iran’s Armed Forces delivered an immediate and forceful response. The IRGC Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes under Operation True Promise III, inflicting significant damage and heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.

In retaliation for the US attacks, Iranian forces also targeted al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar —the largest American military installation in West Asia— with a barrage of missiles.

The confrontation came to an end on June 24, when a ceasefire was enforced.
