Iran Rejects PGCC’s Statement on Trio Islands

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry refuted the “hackneyed and inadmissible” claims raised in a recent statement by the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) regarding three Iranian islands, reaffirming Iran’s eternal sovereignty over those Persian Gulf islands.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry dismissed the allegations contained in the final communiqué of the PGCC’s 165th ministerial meeting in Kuwait.

It stressed once again that Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are inseparable parts of Iran’s territorial integrity, adding that repeated baseless claims in similar statements will never change the geographical, historical, and legal realities of the islands.

The ministry emphasized that Iran, in exercising its sovereign rights, will take any necessary measures to ensure security and safeguard national interests in the islands.

Reiterating Iran’s position on the Arash gas field, the ministry declared unilateral claims about the field invalid, noting that repeated statements and one-sided assertions do not create any legal rights for Kuwait.

It underlined that a fair and lasting agreement requires bilateral dialogue, joint efforts, and a constructive atmosphere to secure mutual rights and interests.

The statement also reaffirmed Iran’s legitimate right to benefit from nuclear energy under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), dismissing any doubts about the peaceful nature of its nuclear program as unfounded.

It stressed that while Iran has fulfilled its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and acted responsibly in negotiations, the US and the European parties have consistently violated international law, undermining diplomatic processes through repeated breaches.

The Foreign Ministry further drew regional attention to the grave threat posed by the Israeli regime’s weapons of mass destruction, stressing that establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the region requires collective efforts to compel the international community to adopt effective measures against the genocidal Zionist regime’s arsenal.

Highlighting the need for lasting regional security and stability through cooperation among all countries and free from destabilizing foreign interference, the statement reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to strengthen regional engagement toward that goal.

Finally, the ministry welcomed the PGCC states’ stance in condemning the Israeli regime’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people, urging immediate and effective measures --including severing political and diplomatic ties with the regime-- to compel Israel to halt its atrocities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
