Pezeshkian Calls SCO Plus A Platform for Global Peace, Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus summit as a pivotal forum for strengthening international cooperation and promoting global peace, justice, and sustainable development.

Addressing the SCO Plus summit in Tianjin, China, on Monday, Pezeshkian stressed that the expansion of dialogue with like-minded countries through the SCO Plus provides a unique opportunity to deepen collaboration on political, economic, and security matters.

He highlighted that the organization’s inclusive platform allows nations to address shared challenges and explore solutions beyond the constraints of unilateral approaches.

Pezeshkian noted that the post-Cold War era has been marked by unilateralism and power-based politics, which have often obstructed global efforts for lasting peace.

Against this backdrop, the SCO has remained a beacon of hope, fostering cooperation among nations and promoting dialogue over confrontation, he added, calling for a renewed framework of global governance based on equality, justice, and mutual respect, contrasting it with prevailing approaches grounded in dominance and coercion.

The Iranian president underlined that the SCO’s model demonstrates the ability of developing countries and emerging economies to jointly address pressing global issues, including economic inequality, unilateral sanctions, climate change, and transnational security crises. He emphasized that such cooperation is not only practical but essential for shaping a fairer and more stable international order.

Highlighting the need for stronger ties with Global South countries, Pezeshkian urged the SCO to focus on financial collaboration, joint investment in infrastructure, and the development of science and technology capacities. He reiterated Iran’s readiness to contribute through its scientific expertise, energy resources, and strategic transit routes, which can facilitate regional trade and economic integration.

Reflecting on recent geopolitical tensions, the president condemned the imposition of peace through force, citing the Iranian nation’s experiences under sanctions and military threats. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful nuclear program and stressed that coercion has proven ineffective against the resilient Iranian people.

Pezeshkian also drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging SCO members to take coordinated and organized measures to address regional conflicts. He highlighted that a just resolution of the Palestinian issue is critical for lasting peace and stability in West Asia, noting that global efforts toward security and development cannot succeed without addressing the plight of oppressed people.

In his concluding remarks, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to China for successfully hosting the summit and praised President Xi Jinping’s vision for reforming global governance. He described such initiatives as essential for promoting equitable international cooperation, reinforcing the principles of justice, and building a multipolar world order where all nations, regardless of size or wealth, enjoy equal rights and representation.
