Iranian President Stresses Role of Parliaments in Intergovernmental Relations
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the pivotal role the parliaments play in advancing government objectives and fostering closer international ties.
He made the comments in a meeting with Natalia Ivanovna Kochanova, chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, and Igor Sergeyenko, chairman of the House of Representatives, held in Minsk on Wednesday.
Pezeshkian pointed to the joint cooperation roadmap for 2023–2026, reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to its full implementation and voiced optimism that the plan would pave the way for a long-term strategic partnership between Iran and Belarus.
Emphasizing the determination of officials on both sides, the president said the two nations are capable of devising a practical program to achieve major developmental goals.
He also reiterated Iran’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Belarus in the regional and international organizations, including the Eurasian Economic Union, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
On regional issues, Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has never initiated hostilities against any country, while condemning Israeli aggression against Iran and its attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities.
He also decried the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, noting that more than 60,000 people have lost their lives in recent years as a result of violence and blockades.
Kochanova, for her part, expressed solidarity with Iran, denouncing Israeli attacks as a violation of the international law. She praised Iran’s resilience under external pressure and reaffirmed Belarus’s support for the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. She also welcomed the growing parliamentary cooperation between Tehran and Minsk, saying it contributes to stronger bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, Sergeyenko described Belarus as a “reliable friend and partner” of Iran, calling the visit a turning point in the relations. He also pledged to help strengthen cooperation and expand the comprehensive roadmap for long-term collaboration between the two nations.
