Iran Welcomes Initiatives to End Ukraine Conflict

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei affirmed Tehran’s support for any initiative aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that disputes should be resolved through peaceful and political means.

“We welcome any initiative that brings an end to the conflict in Ukraine,” the spokesperson said.

“From the outset, we have stated that differences must be resolved through peaceful and political methods. At the same time, the United States, given its poor track record in international negotiations, must make significant efforts to gain the trust of the parties involved,” Baqaei added.

Regarding the recent Russia-US talks in Alaska, he said the discussions were primarily focused on developments in Ukraine.

“Certainly, we are in contact regarding the issues raised. Wherever necessary, we consult with friendly countries on matters concerning our own interests,” he stated.

On the US foreign policy doctrine, he remarked, “The United States has long pursued this policy openly toward all countries. This means following unilateral policies and focusing solely on interests that benefit America. Threats against nations should be viewed in this context."

He went on to say that such a policy undermines all international rules and frameworks on which state interactions should be based.
