Hamas Reveals Details of Attacks on Israeli Forces in Northern Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hamas fighters had killed and injured several Israeli soldiers in attacks in the northern Gaza Strip back in July, the resistance group said Tuesday.

The group’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, said in a statement that three Israeli soldiers were killed and injured in an ambush in the Shejaiya neighborhood on July 5.

Hamas fighters also struck an Israeli force with anti-personnel shells on July 7, leaving several soldiers dead and injured.

The Palestinian group said an Israeli army command center and a Merkava tank were also struck with anti-tank shells in the same neighborhood.

Hamas said it revealed the details of the attacks after the return of its fighters from the battlefield, Anadolu Agency reported.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on Hamas’ statement.

Despite more than 21 months since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, Palestinian resistance factions continue to conduct well-planned ambushes in the area, inflicting casualties on Israeli forces, showcasing Tel Aviv’s inability to achieve its war objectives.

Official army figures put Israel’s military losses since the start of the Gaza war at 898 dead and 6,190 wounded. Under tight wartime censorship, Israeli media have accused the army of downplaying the true scale of its casualties to maintain public morale.

On Friday, Israel’s security cabinet approved prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s phased plan to occupy Gaza in its entirety. The first stage involves forcing around 1 million residents out of Gaza City to the south, encircling the city, and launching incursions into residential areas. A second stage would see the takeover of central refugee camps, many already devastated in the ongoing war.

Israel is facing mounting condemnation for its genocidal war on Gaza, where it has killed nearly 61,600 victims since October 2023.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former war minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
