Iranian Coast Guard Seizes Foreign Tanker Smuggling Fuel in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Border Police’ maritime forces captured a foreign oil tanker in the Persian Gulf that was carrying over 2 million liters of smuggled diesel.

Commander of Iranian Border Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goodarzi said the coast guard forces in the southern province of Hormozgan conducted the operation in cooperation with the Iranian Navy.

He said the foreign-flagged oil tanker ‘Phoenix’ that was carrying over 2 million liters of smuggled diesel has been seized by the Iranian forces.  

The commander noted that 17 foreign smugglers have been arrested and taken to the Iranian port of Jask.
