TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister praised China for adopting constructive and influential stances at international organizations, specifically the UN Security Council, in condemnation of the Israeli and American military aggression against Iran and attacks on its nuclear facilities.

Abbas Araqchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held a meeting on the sidelines of a session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in China’s Tianjin on Wednesday.

The Iranian and Chinese foreign ministers discussed the latest regional and international developments as well as various key aspects of bilateral ties.

The Iranian foreign minister expressed gratitude for China’s warm hospitality and the successful organization of the 25th SCO Council of Ministers meeting.

He also thanked his Chinese counterpart, as the rotating chair of the organization, for his clear and firm stance in condemning the aggression of the Israeli regime and the US against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, which constitute clear violations of the UN Charter and international law.

Hailing the deep-rooted ties between the ancient civilizations of Iran and China, Araqchi emphasized Iran’s serious commitment to enhancing the comprehensive and friendly relations between the two countries within the framework of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, based on mutual respect and trust.

He also thanked China for its principled, constructive, and influential positions in the international forums, particularly at the United Nations Security Council, in condemning the aggression by the Zionist regime and US against Iran, especially the recent dangerous attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, the ministry’s website reported.

Araqchi briefed his Chinese counterpart on the latest developments following the aggression and the cessation of hostilities, underscoring the responsibility of the Security Council and all states to uphold their duties in preserving regional and global peace and security.

The Chinese foreign minister, for his part, praised Iran’s goodwill, responsible, and wise approach in preventing further escalation and conflict in the region.

Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s firm support for Iran’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security, stating that China’s principled position is opposition to coercive and unilateral policies, the use of force, and support for diplomacy and dialogue as the means for resolving disputes.

He also stressed the importance of continued bilateral and multilateral talks to prevent escalation in the region and announced China’s readiness to assist in this regard at international platforms, especially within the UN Security Council.

During the meeting, the Iranian and Chinese foreign ministers also reviewed the latest status of implementing bilateral agreements and cooperation projects in various economic and commercial fields.

They discussed opportunities and capacities for expanding relations, particularly leveraging China’s current presidency of the SCO and Iran’s active participation in the organization’s upcoming events.
