Iran Doubtful about Israeli Commitment to Truce: Top General

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Expressing doubts about the observance of the ceasefire by the Zionist regime, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi warned of Tehran’s severe response to any new act of aggression.

In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Major General Mousavi and Defense Minister of Saudi Arabia Khalid bin Salman Al Saud talked about the bilateral and regional issues, including the 12-day war that the Israeli regime and the US imposed on Iran.

The top Iranian commander said the American and Israeli acts of aggression were taken against the Islamic Republic while Iran had shown self-restraint as indirect nuclear talks were being held between Tehran and Washington.

The 12-day war on Iran proved that the US and the Zionist regime do not honor any international rules and norms, the general stated.

“Since we are completely doubtful about the enemy honoring its commitments, including the ceasefire, we are prepared to give it a tough response in case of recurrence of an act of aggression,” Major General Mousavi warned.

He underlined that Iran was not the party that started the war, but responded to the aggressors with full force.

For his part, the Saudi defense minister said the kingdom has condemned the acts of aggression against Iran and has made efforts to stop the war.

He also offered his condolences to Iran over the martyrdom of a number of military commanders in the Israeli strikes.

The two officials called for constant consultations between Iran and Saudi Arabia to promote the bilateral relations and ensure regional security and calm.

While the Zionist regime waged a war of aggression against Iran on June 13 and struck Iran’s military, nuclear and residential areas for 12 days, the US stepped in and conducted military attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran’s Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan on June 22.

The Iranian military forces conducted powerful counterattacks immediately after the aggression. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes against the Zionist regime as part of Operation True Promise III that inflicted heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.

Also, in response to the US attacks, Iranian armed forces launched a wave of missiles at al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

A ceasefire that came into force on June 24 brought the fighting to a halt.
