Iran Steps Up Diplomacy to Halt Israeli Aggression as OIC Convenes in Turkey
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has joined his counterparts from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation members in Istanbul to drum up support for Tehran against the Zionist regime’s war of aggression.
The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Istanbul on Saturday morning to take part in the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Speaking to reporters, Araqchi said the OIC has approved Iran’s proposal to hold an extraordinary meeting on the sidelines of the ministerial event to discuss the Israeli regime’s war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.
“We hope that a good and strong statement would be issued in condemnation of this (Israeli) aggression,” he said.
Araqchi noted that he will hold meetings with the OIC foreign ministers, the secretary general of the OIC, and the president of Turkey on the sidelines of the event.
“We will use this opportunity to let the voice of righteousness of the Iranian people’s legitimate defense be heard,” he stated.
The session in Istanbul, hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, will be held under the theme "The Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a Transforming World."
The number of participants is expected to be around 1,000, with a record number of high-level participants compared to previous meetings.
The event is held against a backdrop of the Israeli regime’s aggression on Iran that has claimed the lives of dozens of Iranian military commanders, nuclear scientists and civilians since June 13.
