Iran Won’t Relinquish NPT Rights: Nuclear Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami emphasized that Tehran will fully uphold its rights under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and international law, despite recent unprecedented attacks on its nuclear facilities.

Addressing the 69th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, held in Vienna on Monday, Eslami condemned the Israeli regime’s military strikes on Iran, which targeted nuclear installations under IAEA safeguards in June.

He lashed out at the US for joining the violations of international law and UN principles, noting that the military attacks have caused significant material damage and jeopardized the credibility of the IAEA’s safeguard system.

Despite these challenges, Eslami stressed that Iran’s nuclear science and technology remain intact, and Tehran will continue to cooperate with the IAEA once security concerns for its facilities and personnel are addressed.

He stated that the previous IAEA reports confirm that Iran has not diverted nuclear material or pursued nuclear weapons development.

Eslami also warned that attempts by certain Western countries to exploit multilateral mechanisms, including the so-called snapback provisions of the JCPOA, are illegal and undermine the authority of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Iran will resist political, psychological, and military pressure, while remaining committed to diplomatic and peaceful solutions, he said.

Iran has submitted a draft resolution to the IAEA General Conference aimed at reinforcing the agency’s mandate, ensuring the integrity of the safeguard system, and upholding fundamental principles of international law, Eslami added.

He also called on the international community to condemn the Israeli attacks, restore the impartiality and credibility of the IAEA, and prevent the normalization of illegal acts against Iran’s nuclear program.

The 69th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference is being held from September 15 to 19, 2025, at the Vienna International Center (VIC) in Vienna, Austria, where high-ranking officials and representatives from IAEA member states are considering a range of issues.
