Convoy of Activists Departs Tunisia in Condemnation of Gaza Blockade

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – North African activists launched a land convoy toward Gaza to protest Israel’s blockade, amid rising condemnation of the Israeli regime over the humanitarian crisis it has caused by the inhuman siege.

A convoy of buses and private vehicles carrying Tunisian and other North African activists departed Tunisia’s capital on Monday.

The symbolic journey aims to highlight the blockade imposed on Gaza and express solidarity with Palestinians under siege.

The initiative follows the Israeli navy’s seizure of the Freedom Flotilla on Monday, a maritime mission that sought to deliver aid to Gaza.

Among those detained during that operation was Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was deported by Israel.

The North African convoy, called “Soumoud” or “steadfastness,” includes civil society members such as lawyers and medical professionals.

Organized independently, the group emphasizes that the mission carries no material aid, but serves as a public denunciation of “the unjust siege” enforced by Israel.

The timing of the convoy was coordinated to align with the maritime flotilla, in an effort to amplify global attention on the blockade.

Participants plan to cross Libya and Egypt, aiming to reach the Rafah crossing — largely sealed since May 2024 after Israeli forces seized the Gaza side amid renewed attacks.

Organizers criticized the inaction by Arab governments, urging immediate pressure to end a brutal war that has lasted over 20 months.

They argue the blockade has deepened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with warnings from international agencies of potential mass starvation.
