Egypt Eyes Stronger Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for the promotion of his country’s relations with Iran on the basis of mutual respect.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who is visiting Cairo at the invitation of his Egyptian counterpart, met with el-Sisi on Monday.

Sending his regards for the Iranian president, the Egyptian leader called for the continuation of close consultations between the two countries and for the expansion of the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual interests and respect.

He also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to stop the Israeli genocidal crimes in Gaza.

El-Sisi reaffirmed his country’s stance on the need to control and prevent the escalation of regional tensions, establish calm, and ensure the interests of Muslim nations.

For his part, Araqchi hailed the growing trend in the contacts and meetings between the Iranian and Egyptian officials.

The foreign minister stated that cooperation between Iran and Egypt on the current delicate developments would be useful and constructive.

Deploring the dire situation in Gaza caused by the Zionist regime’s onslaught, Araqchi stressed the need for concerted action by Islamic countries to rein in the Israeli regime and stop its acts of aggression against Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.

The Egyptian president and the Iranian foreign minister also discussed the process of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US.
