At Least 11 Wounded in South Carolina Beach Town Shooting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A holiday weekend party on a charter boat in Little River, South Carolina, ended in gunfire Sunday night, leaving at least 11 people wounded, several critically, authorities said.

Eleven people were shot during an altercation that broke out aboard a private boat docked along the South Carolina coast around 9:30 pm, Horry County Police said in a statement.

Police added that at least one additional individual was hospitalized, though not due to a gunshot injury.

The incident occurred near a dock where private cruise boats typically depart. The vessel involved was stationary at the time, and investigators are working to determine where the fight and subsequent gunfire began.

An online flyer had promoted a Sunday evening party featuring a DJ aboard a three-hour cruise ending at 9 pm. A woman who answered a number listed on the flyer said she was distraught after witnessing friends being shot, but declined to comment further and hung up.

A representative from the company that owns the boat also refused to speak with a reporter.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Randy Evans told The Post and Courier that his 25-year-old son was among the victims, shot in the ankle and toe. Despite his injuries, he reportedly used his bathing suit as a makeshift tourniquet to help others who were more seriously wounded.

In a separate incident, a North Myrtle Beach police officer responding to the shooting accidentally shot himself in the leg at a marina roughly 3 miles (5 kilometers) away. The officer was hospitalized in stable condition, according to city spokeswoman Lauren Jessie.

Little River is located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Myrtle Beach and is known for its fishing charters, dolphin tours, and a casino boat.
