Ashgabat to Host 17th Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission Meeting

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials from Iran and Turkmenistan will meet in Turkmen capital of Ashgabat on November 17-18 to hold the 17th Iran- Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission to promote bilateral relations.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash, and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Raşit Meredow.

During this visit, Bazrpash will also meet with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and the Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the General Director of the Transport and Communications Agency Mammethan Chakiev.

He will discuss comprehensive cooperation in different fields including commerce, transport and transit, energy, industry, export of engineering and technical services, customs, agriculture, scientific exchange, health, and tourism.

The two sides are also expected to conclude some MoUs in the fields of insurance, free trade, meteorology, tourism, sports, agriculture, and the environment.

A joint commercial conference and an exhibition (Iran Project) will be held simultaneously on the sideline of the commission.

Back in May 2023, Bazrpash and Meredow met in Tehran and discussed the activation of the 'Ashgabat agreement' for increased transit in the region, saying its operational and implementation phases would be decided during the 17th Joint Economic Commission.
