Speaking in an interview with FARS news agency on Wednesday, Adviser to the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Sajjad Kashefi pointed to the eye-catching measures taken by the Iranian administration regarding the increase of gas interaction with neighboring Turkmenistan and added that Iran and Turkmenistan established gas relations decades ago in a way that between 30 million and 40 million cubic meters of gas were previously imported to the country.

The two countries strengthened their amicable ties since the new administration assumed power in August 2021, based on which, a gas swap deal for as much as 5 million cubic meters was inked with Turkmenistan at the beginning of the new administration, the adviser added.

The contract for gas imports from neighboring Turkmenistan was inked in 1996 for a period of 25 years.

Under the contract, Iran was importing up to 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas from this neighboring country annually.
