Iran Pursuing Islamic Summit to Discuss Stopping Genocide in Gaza: FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said the country pursues holding of a meeting of Muslim and Arab countries’ leaders to discuss putting an end to the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara, Amirabdollahian said the idea, which has been put forward by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, has been discussed in talks with the senior officials of Qatar, Turkey, Saud Arabia and Egypt.
Iran will continue its efforts and consultations with other countries to prevent the spread of war, he stated.
Iran’s top diplomat deplored the continuation of atrocities committed in the Gaza Strip by the Zionist regime and said the region is getting very close to a major decision (which will be taken) if the genocide in Gaza does not stop.
He added that if the conflict does not end immediately, the US and the Zionist regime will be directly responsible for the expansion of the scale of the war.
The situation will not remain like this and the resistance will put taking a surprise move on its agenda, if the killing of civilians continues, he stressed.
The Iranian feign minister also pointed to his talks with Hamas officials and said they have informed him that 50 of the prisoners held by Hamas have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza hospitals.
He also lauded the stances of Turkey in support of the people of Palestine.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amirabdollahian referred to the growing ties between Tehran and Ankara and noted that the Iranian president plans to visit Turkey in the near future.
During the press conference, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan slammed Israel’s bombing of hospitals, mosques and refugee camps in Gaza and deplored some countries’ support for Tel Aviv.
He added that Israel must know that it will get nowhere by ignoring Palestinians and shedding their blood.
Fidan also underlined Turkey’s diplomatic efforts for an end to the deadly war in Gaza.
Earlier on Wednesday, the two foreign ministers held a meeting behind closed doors in the Turkish capital, to exchange views on finding a solution to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and an immediate end to the Israeli crimes in Gaza.
They also discuss the latest developments in the region and some issues of mutual interest.
This was the second meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries since the Israeli regime started its brutal war against the Palestinians living in Gaza.
Two weeks ago, Amirabdollahian and Fidan met on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah.
