Iran, Russia Discuss Joint Production of Vehicles, Automotive Parts

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Russia emphasized broadening bilateral cooperation in the fields of testing and jointly producing vehicles and automotive parts.

In a meeting held in Tehran on Saturday between Iran’s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade for the General Industries Manouchehr Manteghi and General Director of Russia’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI Fedor Nazarov, Deputy CEO for Marketing Affairs of the Enterprise NAMI Nikolai Schmidt and Adviser to the General Director of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI Vladimir Tofimenko, the two sides exchanged views on cementing bilateral cooperation in the field of manufacturing cars and automotive parts.

Senior managers of Iran’s two largest auto manufacturing companies, i.e. Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKCO) and SAIPA Automotive Group, attended the meeting as well.

They discussed the cooperation of Russia’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI with IKCO and SAIPA, fulfilling standards for IKCO and SAIPA companies’ products by Russia’s NAMI as licensed by Europe, reducing costs for exporting IKCO and SAIPA companies’ vehicles to Russia and also making efforts for creating competitive opportunities with products of other countries in Russia.

The general director of Russia’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI pointed to the measures taken in line with testing vehicles and auto parts and revealed that this economic enterprise is a major center for the complete testing of self-drive vehicles observing requirements of international standards.

Fedor Nazarov hailed Iran’s automotive industry for its progress and highlighted that the two countries enjoy high potentials to expand their cooperation in this field.

Iran’s deputy minister of industry, meanwhile, called for setting up a representative office of Russia’s Enterprise NAMI in Iran for testing operations related to vehicles and automotive parts.

Electrifying vehicles is being implemented in Iran, which can be a basis for joint cooperation between the two countries, Manteghi added.
