IAEA Report Affirms No Diversion of Nuclear Material in Iran: Envoy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency Reza Najafi said the main point in the UN nuclear agency’s Wednesday report is the affirmation that no indication has been found of any diversion of nuclear material in Iran.
“The most important point in the report is the non-diversion of nuclear material in Iran,” Najafi said of the IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano’s report, released on Wednesday.
The IAEA director general has nowhere in the report cited any lack of Iran’s commitment, the envoy said.
Najafi also noted that “the Agency has not found any indication of an undeclared nuclear fuel cycle in Iran, beyond those activities declared retrospectively by Iran.”
This is highly significant because it dismisses the allegations that Iran may have been doing enrichment activities somewhere other than Natanz and Fordow, he explained.
His comments came after the IAEA on Wednesday released a much-awaited report, titled “final assessment on past and present outstanding issues regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.”
The report has confirmed that the agency has no credible indications of suspicious work in Tehran’s nuclear activities.
As part of a Road-map signed between Iran and the IAEA in July, the agency is required to finish its investigations about Iran’s nuclear activities and submit a report to the Board of Governors by December 15.
The Road-map was signed on the same day that Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement, known as the JCPOA.
The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Iran’s commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
