Aussie Envoy Leaves Tehran As Iran Responds to Hostile Move by Canberra
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Australia’s ambassador has left Tehran after Canberra downgraded diplomatic ties in an unfounded and politically driven move.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesman said Australia’s decision to expel Iran’s envoy and reduce diplomatic relations was “unjustified” and lacked any rational basis.
Esmail Baqaei stressed that such actions damage the ties between the two nations and serve no constructive purpose.
“In line with diplomatic norms and regulations, the Islamic Republic of Iran has reciprocally reduced the level of Australia’s presence in Tehran,” Baqaei stated, confirming that the Australian envoy has now left Iran.
He added that despite restrictions imposed on Iran’s embassy in Canberra, consular services for Iranian expatriated living in Australia remain active.
The spokesman underlined that Tehran will continue to provide necessary support to its citizens abroad.
He also rejected accusations of antisemitism against Iran as “ridiculous and baseless”.
