Tasnim Hailed After Gaza Correspondent Wins Prestigious Media Award

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Tasnim News Agency of Iran received congratulations from an adviser to the Iraqi prime minister after its Gaza-based journalist Aya Jouda was honored with the ‘Shireen Abu Akleh Award for Media Excellence’.

Mazen al-Zaidi, adviser to the Iraqi premier, sent a congratulatory message to the CEO of Tasnim following the achievement of the agency’s Gaza-based reporter.

In his message, al-Zaidi extended congratulations to Tasnim’s CEO, journalists, and staff for Jouda’s success, praying for their continued progress and prosperity.

Highlighting that human resources are the most important factor in any victory or success, the Iraqi official said Tasnim has managed to overcome numerous challenges and obstacles to secure a prominent position among leading regional and international media outlets.

Al-Zaidi stressed that this accomplishment reflects Tasnim’s remarkable competence and capabilities, expressing hope that the agency will continue to succeed and remain distinguished on its honorable path.

The recognition came in the third edition of the ‘Shireen Abu Akleh Award for Media Excellence’, where Aya Jouda was honored for her powerful reporting on the suffering of the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Zionist occupation.

The prestigious award, presented annually by Birzeit University in Ramallah, West Bank, is dedicated to journalists and media figures who demonstrate exceptional courage, integrity, and commitment in covering Palestinian issues.

Since the early days of the Israeli regime’s aggression against the Gaza Strip, Jouda, serving as Tasnim’s correspondent in the besieged enclave, has delivered on-the-ground reports, live coverage, and harrowing footage exposing the blockade, occupation, and systematic violence inflicted on civilians. Her work has drawn international attention to the humanitarian catastrophe, particularly the plight of women and children under relentless bombardment.

Reporting under extremely dangerous conditions marked by power cuts, communication blackouts, and direct threats to her life, Jouda has exemplified journalistic bravery. Her accounts have not only informed audiences but also served as vital documentation of crimes committed during the aggression on Gaza.

The award continues a tradition established in its second year, when Al Jazeera journalist Hisham Zagout was honored for his courageous reporting. Named after the late Shireen Abu Akleh, the Al Jazeera correspondent killed while covering developments in the occupied West Bank, the award serves as a symbol of the high price of truth-telling in conflict zones.
