Iran’s Military Power Totally Unaffected by Snapback: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The decision by the European troika to invoke the snapback mechanism of the 2015 nuclear deal will by no means affect Iran’s defense or combat capabilities, the Iranian Defense Ministry’s spokesperson said.

In comments at an event in Iran’s western city of Sanandaj on Saturday, Brigadier General Reza Talaee Nik shrugged off the European troika’s decision to trigger the snapback mechanism of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

“Snapback would have no effect on Iran’s defense and combat power, because we are in the process of historical success,” said General Talaee Nik, who is also the ministry’s deputy for planning and parliamentary affairs.

He noted that Iran ranks among the world’s top ten missile powers and is considered one of the major arms producers thanks to its indigenous, knowledge-based equipment.

The spokesman added that the Iranian Armed Forces are fully prepared to confront hostile schemes, stressing that the Defense Ministry’s combat, defense, and logistical readiness has further increased since the 12-day imposed war in June.

In a new escalation, the European troika of the UK, France, and Germany (EU3) has formally sent a letter to the UN Security Council announcing the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism, a step that seeks to re-impose international sanctions on Iran. The announcement marks the most serious move yet by the three European states against Tehran since the US withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018.

Iranian officials have denounced the measure as illegal and politically motivated, stressing that Europe has no standing to invoke snapback after failing to fulfill its own commitments under the nuclear deal. Tehran has warned that such a step will compel a decisive reciprocal response, undermine cooperation with the IAEA, and severely damage the credibility of the Security Council itself.
