Iran Opposes Any Geopolitical Change in Region: Larijani
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani reiterated Tehran’s opposition to any geopolitical changes in the region, underlining Iran’s support for regional peace and stability.
In a meeting with Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan, held in Tehran on Saturday, Larijani expressed Iran’s satisfaction with the current level of economic, political, security, and defense relations with Armenia.
He highlighted the importance of cooperation with the northern neighbors in completing the North-South corridor and connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.
He also expressed Iran’s support for peace talks between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, outlining Iran’s approach to regional peace and stability.
Larijani emphasized that Iran has always supported the independence and strength of the regional countries as a means to sustain regional security.
For his part, Grigoryan hailed the unprecedented relations between Yerevan and Tehran, saying the purpose of his visit is to expand relations between the two countries in all areas.
He added that Armenia intends to sign a comprehensive document on strategic relations with Iran in the near future.
The Armenian security chief further stressed five key principles, namely national sovereignty, respect for territorial integrity, exercise of national judicial authority, the inviolability of borders, and the principle of reciprocity.
He then voiced Yerevan’s readiness to provide necessary guarantees to Iran to ensure the protection of bilateral relations and reiterated Armenia’s inherent opposition to any geopolitical changes in the region.
Grigoryan also emphasized that, in the agreements reached during peace negotiations, Armenia maintains exclusive authority over its security, military, and customs matters.
