Colombia Halts Coal Exports to Israel over Gaza Atrocities
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Colombia has suspended coal exports to Israel in protest against the regime’s ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza, which has left tens of thousands of Palestinians dead and plunged the besieged enclave into humanitarian collapse.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the decision to ban coal exports to Israel, denouncing the crimes committed against Palestinians in Gaza.
The move comes amid growing international condemnation of the Israeli regime’s military onslaught, which has continued unabated since October 7, 2023.
Over 58,000 Palestinians --mostly women and children-- have been massacred in indiscriminate airstrikes and ground assaults.
The Zionist regime has enforced an 18-year blockade on Gaza, and since March 2, has sealed all crossings, deliberately worsening humanitarian conditions.
Basic necessities including food, water, and medical supplies have been systematically denied to over two million civilians trapped in the enclave.
Israel’s relentless aggression has prompted legal action on the international stage.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Simultaneously, the regime stands trial at the International Court of Justice for committing genocide against the Palestinian people.
Despite mounting legal and moral pressure, Israeli forces continue to reject global calls for a ceasefire, intensifying attacks on residential areas, hospitals, and aid convoys.
Colombia’s ban is among the strongest measures taken by a Latin American nation, signaling a shift in global momentum against Tel Aviv’s impunity.
