Iran Still Favoring Talks: VP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is inclined to hold negotiations with might, First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said.

In comments a meeting with a group of university professors on Saturday, Aref praised the Iranian people for protecting the homeland in the face of the Israeli war of aggression for 12 days.

Hailing the effective presence of people in defense of the country, the vice president said the enemy’s plot to incite people to rise against the establishment after its strikes on the country’s military sector ended in failure.

“There is no discord between the field and diplomacy (in Iran) today,” Aref added.

He noted that the possible different views in the process of decision making in Iran fade away when an ultimate decision is made and finalized.

The vice president stressed that the administration of President Masoud Pezeshkian has no disagreement with any current in Iran, adding, “At present, the (Iranian) government’s view still entails holding negotiations with might.”

The Zionist regime waged an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on June 13. It carried out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear, military and residential sites that resulted in the martyrdom of over 1,000 people, including top military commanders, nuclear scientists and ordinary citizens.

Later on June 22, the US stepped in and conducted military attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran’s Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan.

In a recent interview with Le Monde, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that in order for the talks on Tehran’s nuclear program to restart, it must be guaranteed that the US does not take military action amid negotiations.
