Iran Warns EU Not to Obstruct Diplomacy
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Denouncing the European attempts to justify the Israeli aggression against Iran as complicity in crimes, the Iranian foreign minister cautioned the EU that its refusal to condemn attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites will complicate the situation and obstruct the course of diplomacy.
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas talked about the latest regional developments following the Israeli-US military aggression against Iran.
Warning of the consequences of the complacency shown by certain parties in the face of the Zionist regime’s illegal conduct and atrocities, Araqchi underscored the responsibility of all states to unequivocally condemn the Israeli and US military attacks against Iran.
He stressed that any statement that implicitly or indirectly justifies the blatant violations of international law and the crimes perpetrated by the Zionist regime would be tantamount to complicity and participation in those crimes, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Highlighting the firm defense of Iran’s territorial integrity and national security by the Iranian people in the face of Israeli and American military aggression, Araqchi described the assault on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities and the massacre of Iranian civilians as an unprecedented blow to diplomacy, the non-proliferation regime, and the Security Council Resolution 2231.
He affirmed that the Iranian Armed Forces stand fully prepared to defend the nation’s sovereignty against any act of aggression.
Araqchi further stated that with the cessation of the Zionist regime’s attacks, Iran also halted its defensive operations, thereby demonstrating its goodwill.
He emphasized that, in stark contrast to the belligerent nature of the Zionist entity, the Islamic Republic of Iran has neither initiated war nor seeks its continuation.
Araqchi also stressed Iran’s fundamental distrust of the United States, saying the military assaults by Israel and the US occurred at a time when Iran was engaged in diplomatic negotiations, and it was the US that betrayed the process of dialogue and diplomacy.
Criticizing the positions of certain European countries and the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in supporting a resolution adopted by the IAEA Board of Governors, as well as their failure to condemn the dangerous aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, Araqchi warned that the continuation of such destructive approach by a number of European states would only complicate the current situation and render the path of diplomacy more arduous.
Kallas, for her part, emphasized that there is no evidence indicating that Iran’s nuclear program is being expanded for the purpose of developing nuclear weapons.
She also underlined the need for a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue and expressed her support for the ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation and restoring stability to the region.
